“No one could ever know me, no one could ever see me,
Seems you’re the only one who knows what it's like to be me.
Someone to face the day with,
Make it through all the mess with.
Someone I'll always laugh with,
Even at my worst, I'm best with you.”

I’ll Be There For You

She was yet another victim

Of a bitter tragic broken home

Her humans had abandoned her

She was now so terribly all alone

She truly did not comprehend

What she had done to make them mad

Or why they had so callously discarded her

In her loyal heart which was now so very sad

At about the very same time

That Daisy found herself alone

My aunt’s precious dog Sadie

Died of old age in her home

As my aunt grieved alone in her bedroom

And Daisy grieved alone at the dog pound

I realized how they both could use a best friend

And now for neither could a single friend be found

So I went and picked up Daisy at the animal shelter

And brought her straight to my elderly aunt’s place

The sheer joy and relief they both soon discovered

Was apparent on both the dog’s and the human’s face

I truly love these truly happy endings

We all truly need a best friend in life

And these two lost souls can now help each other

To find life’s joy again and chase away their strife

“I'll be there for you
I'll be there for you
I'll be there for you
'Cause you're there for me too”

Your best friend just might be waiting for you,

At your local animal shelter.

oh, now you've really gone and done it, Ed. I have St. Francis up here on my mantle, and I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to cut your picture out and put you right up there beside him. Have I asked you if you've thought about collecting all of these and selling it to a publisher? your stories and poems could do so much to raise awareness! Dawn

Magnificent Ed! Beautiful!
All so very true. ~~ What did I do?
Traumatic mental anguish for these Innocent souls. sometimes for a very long time.
I love Happy Endings.(C:) Thanks so Much.
I hope all, even though they say, "I don't need another pet", will realize that in saying that, are saying, "I don't need anymore Love!"
And go save a lost, scared, confused, and sad soul.
Smiles for Everyone!

Oh what a beauty she is! You're a softy after our hearts, Ed. This is a sweet story. My Mr. Kit was an older cat I adopted from a shelter. And allthough he's doing his best to cripple me by always being underfoot(that's devotion)and making me fall, I'm glad he's part of the family. Unconditional love is what they give us...

Little Eddie,

Knowing you, I never look at any living creature without giving him/her thoughts and feelings, wisdom and caring... and they are entirely honest, something humans should not take for granted. I'm very lucky to be in the same world you are. katy xox

What a heartwarming story you've shared with us Ed.

Like Dean Martin use to sing,
"Everybody needs somebody sometime".

I hope that Daisy and your Aunt
share many days of good times together.

All but one of the pets I've had over the years were adopted from the animal shelter. They make outstanding companions, as you so lovingly describe the relationship between your aunt and Daisy.

Beautifully penned! Thank you for caring enough to send the very best of messages.

(((((HUGS))))) and love, Karla. :)

Pets are people too! What a sweet poem from a sweet guy.

I got my big, fat cat Shadow from th SPCA.
He is often mistaken for a skunk. That's how I got the idea for my children's book, "Shadow's Walk."

lovely read. my sadie was abused and then abandoned. took her years to recover. i'll never have a chance to get a shelter dog, the idiots from town who refuse to spay and neuter keep me knee deep in critters. Please, if there is reincarnation, may they come back as kittens and puppies left 'out in the country to make it on their own' and may i come back as a pick up truck, owl, coyote or hawk.

She's just like my childhood bosom pal, Dixie!! Not only a Dog's Best Friend, but Matchmaker as well, now, Ed!! See, it is only a question of putting 2 and 2 together... or 1 and 1 in this case. You could start up a Dating Agency or Lonely Hearts service, matching animals with appropriate homes. It is just the effort, perhaps, that people can't quite bring themselves to... but for Kupid Kostro to arrive on the doorstep with fait accompli, well who could resist... sorry, Rebecca... you might just lose the man as well :)) Nice one, Katman! Wonderful poem Ed, and so timely for us here in Florida where this week many pets will be dropped off in trailer parks, housing developments, and just dropped off. You see, the tourist season is over here, and many, many leases end March 31, and the pets are not going north. This is how I received my Lucy, beautiful female cat. She was someone's kitten Christmas present, but she was my present on the first week in April three years ago. Yes, we're best friends.
