“Oh! the snow, the beautiful snow,

Filling the sky and the earth below,

Over the housetops, over the street,

Over the heads of the people you meet.”

 J. W. Watson

I was minding my own business

I was just taking out the old trash

When I was ambushed from behind

With a Pffft! Wack! Bang! and Splash!!

Young Billie Kozlowski

Who lives just down the block

Had pelted me with snowballs

He’d rung my gray-haired old clock

As Billie laughed very proudly and raced off

I scooped up some snow and chased right after him

I wasn’t about to let this young kid get away with that

The first snow fight of the season – the situation was grim

And very luckily for this old geezer

Billie lost his traction on the slick ice

As he was just getting up off the ground

I hurled my barrage – very compact and nice

My aim was very true as they sailed through the air

But at the last second young Billie managed to duck

Pffft! Wack! Bang! and Splash!! they hit another target

It was crabby old Mrs. Jenkins – now how’s that for luck

As young Billie quickly scrambled behind a tree

I hurriedly dove behind some thick covering brush

And as we both peeked out at the irate Mrs. Jenkins

You could truly hear the deadly silence – all was a hush

After diligently scanning around for the vile perpetrator

The now steaming Mrs. Jenkins finally went back inside

That’s when I saw young Billie quickly skee-daddle away

Still laughing very heartily - still filled with his winning pride

As I crawled out myself and rushed back into my home

I knew that I couldn’t let that young whipper-snapper win

So I quickly dug out a pen and some bright Holiday paper

And as I began to write - I couldn’t contain my huge grin

Dear Mrs. Jenkins,

I’m so sorry I hit you with those snowballs.

And I really hope that you can forgive me,

Snowflakes do come from Heaven, after all.

Billie Kozlowski

Good Luck, Billie,

And May Heaven Be With You!

And if You’re Feelin Sorry for Billie,

Please Don’t – He Pulls Pranks on Me, Too

One of my favorite memories while staying with a friend in CA, was when we decided to take his daughter and her friend to the mountains to see snow. One great snowfight as I taught them how to pack them! LOL. Thank you...........Poor Billy.......Admit loved it when you got old lady Jenkins!

For an "old geezer," you sho do write purdy. L o v e your
sense of humor, the unerring way you paint a scene, and the
rhythm is . . .PERFECT. 'Pea' <

Too funny Ed! Sounds like young Billie will have some "splaining" to do to Mrs. Jenkins! A fun, seasonal piece! Thanks for sharing.
