“In war, there are no unwounded soldiers.”

José Narosky

It’s again National Hospitalized Veterans Week

Something most of us Americans don’t even know

How soon we as a nation forget vets when they return

How quickly we cheer them on when off to war they go

The current bloody wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

Have sadly produced many heartbreaking casualties

Many of these valiant veterans have lost arms and legs

Many have suffered brain injuries affecting mental capacity

Many World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War Veterans

Now Live in Veteran Hospitals and Veteran Nursing Homes

If we as a nation ever start giving them the respect they are due

Veteran advocates like myself could start penning cheerful poems

Our veterans with few family members, or who are up in age,

Always love receiving visits, cards, greetings, and Thank Yous

We all need to make it a point to visit our valiant veterans frequently

I’m learning the location of every VA facility - and I hope you will, too

National Hospitalized Veterans Week

February 11th to February 17th

Please Make it a Habit To Visit, Call, or Write Our Vets

What they have endured, they’ve endured for you and me

As a nation we owe far more respect to them than we give

They would like hearing from us all year – not just in February

And our politicians are already making plans

To cut their healthcare funding yet once more

Something everyone in America should protest

Something everyone in America should abhor

All our politicians love to shout,

“We Must Support Our Troops!”

Yet very often behind the scenes these days,

They very eagerly cut them from the funding loop

The website listed below identifies Veteran Facilities all across the United States.

I bet there’s one right near your own home.

Another great article Ed. They do need and deserve our recognition. When I worked At Charlotte Mental Health , we would have all the clients make Valentine cards , and then we'd send them to the VA in Tampa. Many are forgotten , as our the elderly....M

cannot agree more. 10 years after he came home from Nam my boys dad screamed every night, and was dead and not even a memory for his children before they were old enough to really know him, he is the man in the pictures, not in their memory. 40 years after Nam my husband does not scream at night... the cong will hear you if you make noise, he was special forces... he whispers, all night, every night

Outstanding write Ed
My prior patner in the NYPD
Ws a Nam Vet
Wasn't physically wounded
But he brought with him,
his thousand yard stare
He often drifted into a spaced out stared
while in conversation, yet never mentioned
"Nam"

Please read my story on an increase in monies for our Veterans. Bush has authorized over 3 billion more than last year and is a first step in acknowledging the price veterans pay when they are injured while serving our country. It falls short of what many Veteran groups had called for at least it is a start of an awakening in Washington that more needs to be done for our Vets. Write to your Congressmen and Senators and keep the heat on them to provide the best health care that this Country can give to our Vets and cut costs elsewhere but never on the VA budgets for our Veterans.
