"If I have any beliefs about immortality,

It is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven,

And very few persons will."

James Thurber

I have written a few poems about him before

This brave old friend of mine from New Orleans

His two back legs were paralyzed in the hurricane

Even though he’s a ‘Pit Bull’ he never turned mean

He spent several long months in a veterinary hospital

Then he was brought to our rescued pet center in town

And even though this courageous canine could not walk

He was one of the happiest souls I had ever been around

Many of us fell in love with this dog because of his spirit

He loved playing fetch scooting after a ball on his behind

For many of us he became the symbol for all the survivors

They all truly wanted to live and find some love of some kind

A kind hearted soul eventually bought him a dog scooter

And now my friend learned to run again never once afraid

He soon joyously marched along with several other animals

In an extremely gala Mardi Gras Rescued Dog and Cat Parade

Last year I heard some marvelous news about my old pal Red

He had found his permanent home with a woman named Diane

Which makes this old dog lover very happy for this marvelous mutt

He deserves all the very best in life – he truly is a creature most grand

Yet, many of his canine kind are now under a truly unjustified attack

Please read my accompanying article about Breed Specific Legislation

Vicious human beings are causing dogs like Red to be branded ‘vicious’

And yet once again, mankind blames an animal, for our own evil inclinations

An animal raised with love wil love in return. Some breeds are agressive, but without torture inflicted by cruel masters they are only agressive when they or a member of their family are threatened.
I continue to praise your efforts, Ed.

I have to agree with you Ed, these animals are what they are trained to be in the end they are the ones who suffer, such a shame. In my mind and heart this is abuse to the animals. Thank you for sharing.

So right you are, and those that train these dogs to be killers and vicious and sacrifice them for their own selfish reasons should be punished to the highest level of the law.

The old story of getting tarred with the same brush! Will humanity never learn! We are all individuals given life by the one God who
Created all things! Imagine if God were to judge us all the same, the world would have been ended by now. Thanks for sharing Ed,maybe some will get educated!

You know, Pete from the "Little Rascals" was a pit bull and he was such a kind hearted dog as many I have come across over the past few years. There they go blaming innocent animals for the sins of mankind again.....

Be always safe,

My husband told me a funny joke yesterday which I'll share with you Ed.

Question: How do you know dog is man's best friend?

Answer: Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car for an hour. When you open the lid guess which one is going to be happy to see you and licking your face.

~ Sara
I agree with first all with( James Thurber) and secondly Georg said it well enaugh, it's not the dog that is evil, it's us for making him that way. And I thank you for bringing that beautiful story, it warmed the cockles of my heart, especially just signing a petition, where they used a similar dog and let him starve to death as an art exhibit in Honduras, I'll send you a clip. God bless you my friend!

What I loved about this story is the ownership of "we" as the monster

A heartwarming tale, with a hoped-for ending.; one this beautiful dog certainly earned! Mistreatment of any animal deserves the harshest punishment be given to the mistreater, not to the animal!
My thanks, again, for bringing awareness to us, Ed.!

I do get uneasy around Pits, but they aren't the monsters; those who raise them to be mean are the REAL monsters. It's not the pits' fault! Sad!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

They have gone too far, if we let them they will legislate our lives using a hangmans rope.
Instead of condemning the poor creatures it should be legislate harder penalties for the two-legged abusers.
You don't need to go to a derelict car's yards, a sport celebrity engaging in dog-fight cruelty can be a high profile start.
Good for you PeeWee.

I am leary of Pits Because of Owners, my neighbor has one & My Boys don't like his male pit in their yard & his pit wants to fight & growl. I get so frightened (used to) That matter has been resolved.

Pits scare me, only because they are portrayed as monsters; other breeds attack and kill, but seems only the pit gets demonized - thank you for speaking out for them, I've heard they are very loyal and can make wonderful pets. It's the human behind the pit who should be investigated ... well done, Ed.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
