While Off Ridin The Range
This Past Weekend,
I Soon Found Myself,
A Yodelin Again
Sixth in the ‘Ed’ Series,
‘When We Ancient Eds Were-’
My Ed Photo Albums Go Back a Long Ways,
And a Fond Memory or Two, They Always Stir
I don’t recollect exactly what year it was
When we Brothers Ed were ridin that train
Good old Rufuz was travelin with us then
He was howlin up a storm, watchin the rain
And would you believe it, Mr. Gene Autry,
The Yodelin Cowboy himself, came stridin in
And he and old Rufuz soon started a yodelin
That classic cowboy tune, ‘Don’t Fence Me In’
Gene was mighty impressed with old Rufuz
And he soon signed all of us to a recording deal
He also came up with our name, ‘The Howlin Eddies’
He said that it had a mighty fine, Singin Cowboy Appeal
But Rufuz was actually the only one of us who could carry a tune
And he got awfully upset, when he wasn’t even given the top billing
So, just like everything else we Brothers Ed had tried, this quickly failed
But let me tell ya, Buckaroos, cuttin them three records, was mighty thrillin
Ya Might Have Even Heard ‘Em, Too:
‘Old Edvard, Ya Been A Snorin Mighty Darn Hard’
And:
‘The Day Old Jersey Ed Took The 3:10 to Wal-Mart’
And:
‘Pee Wee, Don’t Go Sneakin ‘Round That Tee Pee’
And if you ever still hear any of ‘em bein played on the radio
Don’t you be feelin sorry for good old Ruff ‘N Ready Rufuz
Without we Eds even knowin it, Gene had given him our royalties
We three Brothers Ed are kinda dumb, but Rufuz, he ain’t no dufuz

He Still Don’t Know About Rufie Boy’s
Secret Bank Account and Stock Portfolio.)
(And In Case Any of You Are Wonderin,
Edvard Made Me Wear a Fake Mustache,
And Stand On An Old Wooden Crate,
For This Howlin Eddie Photo Shoot.)
I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences,
And gaze at the moon ‘til I lose my senses,
And I can't stand hobbles,
And I can't abide any old fences,
So, don't fence me in.
