“Tell me what you feel in your room,

When the full moon is shining in on you,

And your lamp is dying out.”

Henri Frederic Amiel

Music: Nightfall

The month of February’s Full Moon

By some, was called ‘Snow Moon’

As I sit here indoors, gazing up at it

I eventually spot a hungry old raccoon

He’s out there tonight, scavenging

In winter, it is difficult to find food

So, I toss him a few dinner leftovers

Which immediately brightens his mood

Many Native Americans called this Full Moon

‘Hunger Moon’ because finding food was tough

On a cold, blustery, February night such as this one

I realize, that once again, life for many, is now rough

Many of us today have become very selfish and spoiled

And with our dwindling food sources, far too gluttonous

To answer Henri Amiel’s question, I’m feeling quite sad

That tonight, there are so many hungry souls, among us

What will you be feeling in your room,

When you gaze up at tonight’s full moon?

On my way home from the shore tonight a VERY large racoon & I ALMOST met by accident...he got across the road & I swerved right to the shoulder & missed him completely...I had to thank God that I didn't clip him as that would have ruined my day altogether...I did not have my high beams on, if I did I would have seen him on the shoulder before he entered the road...Ed

Ed, thanks for the education and inspiration of these words. The moon has been beautiful.

I like to think that nature has a reason for the winters that rob the animals of enough food for survial but I think we can also lend a hand and perhaps that is part of the soulution as well.

It has been a tough winter for the animals...the deer I watch out back digging thru such deep snow seeking food, if only everyone could give a little, I think often how the birds survive such bitter cold~
