“I believe in animal rights,

And high among them,

Is the inherent right,

To the gentle stroke of a human hand.”

Robert Brault

We recently had a fund raiser

For our Orphans of The Street

We had a very satisfying turnout

Fellow animal lovers we did meet

Every day, brings yet another orphan

Far too many, abused by we humans

These orphans, exist everywhere today

Their sad suffering, does not seem to end

The orphans pictured here, all such gentle souls

All left behind, abandoned, and tortured, by man

Giving them a second chance, at a life worth living

One orphan at a time, with help from others, our plan

Chula, and several others, abused by vicious dog fighters

Then dumped on the streets, because they would not fight

Dogs like Izzy, left behind by his family, in a foreclosed house

Others like Opie, found wandering and starving, in the cold night

I discovered Marty, a very sweet old dog, on a sub-zero, winter’s day

He was eating garbage, and a heavy iron chain was weighing him down

I was determined to give this deserving canine, a second chance at a life

Today I’m extremely happy, a loving new home for Marty has been found

Please consider joining a rescue group in your area,

That is attempting to help your orphans of the street;

There are so many of them now, all across this nation,

Hoping for help, waiting for some kind friends to meet.

I'm glad to hear the fund raiser
was a success, Ed, but i know there's an awful long way
to go and you, brave man, will never give up; i wish i
could join you, honestly i do, but i do my little bit
for the spca in this neck of the woods, it's not much
but it's something.

So very sad. The people who abuse animals should be harshly judged by the letter of the law. Joy L. Hale

This touches my heart deeply. I was just reading an article in VegNews magazine about factory farms and the horrendous abuse animals endure that eventually become food for meat eaters. Same goes for the dogs and cats of our planet and the abuse inflicted on them. They're all living and breathing beings that deserve love, food, and shelter as humans do. Thank you for this poem.

So sad how little people respect and care for our world and its inhabitants. On another note I have seen two deer get hit by cars in past two days and I don't want to even try and guess at the number of other road kills...(raccon, fox, porcupine etc) that I have seen lately due to the expansion of cities into the woodland areas of Nova Scotia...

Too many animals are left to fend for themselves and it is a shame.
People aren'y paying the price for cruility to animals.
