“The best thing one can do when it's raining, is to let it rain.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

We awoke to a cold and rainy day yesterday

Our dogs were all very content to stay indoors

Our cats were all cuddled up in their kitty condos

None of them wanted to venture out while it poured

I soon decided to spend some time with Shadow

Although it was raining hard, I wandered out back

Shadow’s trust in me has now increased immensely

He was curled up inside his dog house taking a nap

He eagerly crawled out when he heard me calling him

He’s now grown to like both my voice and my touch

He now looks forward to any time we spend together

Inside his dry kennel, the cold rain didn’t matter much

He soon eagerly searched for the chew bone that I brought him

As I chit-chatted about the day’s events, he contentedly chewed

He finally has a place where he now feels far more safe and secure

We’ve come a long way since his first days here of fear and the blues

I eventually opened the kennel door to see if he wanted to venture outside

He stood there, gazing at the rain, then back at me, and then he chose not to

And soon, he began tossing one of his dog toys up into the air, then fondling it

The best thing anyone can do when it’s raining, is to let it rain, until it’s through

Shadow found comfort with you Mr. Ed. Penned in your finite style
of loving animals. "Me and My Shadow" a forever song in your
heart and a little soft shoe too!

"To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes.

But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world....” ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry~

And here is your reward Mr. Ed, and what reward is no greater than that of trust and love.

Great lesson gained from this poem! We can learn a lot from a dog like Shadow. Let it rain! Let it pour. I'll stay inside rest and snore! Amen!
