There is a way that nature speaks to those who listen,

That the sky, the land, the water, and the animals speak;

But most of the time we are simply not patient enough,

Nor quiet enough, to pay attention to their stories.

Linda Hogan

I had just found Hobo

Now fast asleep in my car

When I heard a magical tune

The night wind had carried it far

As one who loves everything in nature

I had the urge to investigate this night tune

It was one I had not heard in quite some time

It intrigued me as much as the yodel of the loon

And now, I found myself heading towards this melody

It was emanating from a small lake deep inside the wood

As I soon crouched on its shoreline, listening very intently

I eventually spotted him, his night song so joyous and good

He now looked over at me, and didnt seem very startled

Then he waded into the water, and intently peered around

Suddenly, he poked his feathered head beneath the surface

And came up with a small fish, pleased with what hed found

I had truly enjoyed listening to, and then observing, this night fisher

I realized he was a Night Heron, and his song hadnt needed any words

When I returned to my car, I knew that I had been truly blessed this night

Id seen a meteor shower, rescued a canine, and met a most fascinating bird

There is a way that nature speaks to those who listen,

That the sky, the land, the water, and the animals speak;

But most of the time we are simply not patient enough,

Nor quiet enough, to pay attention to their many stories.

A Marvelous August Night, Mr. Ed

You were truly blessed with the gifts of nature on your mission to save Hobo ... Beautiful poem, Ed ...

Wish I could still hear like that. I love the call of the crazy loon, the hooting of the owl, and the strum of the bull alligator, along with the cicada, cricket, and tree toad.

I have never heard of a night heron, and have to look it up.

How lovely Mr. Ed, it reminds me of the movie "On Golden Pond"
You were given lovely gifts from nature which I love so
And it was presented before you for the loving soul you are.

Thank You for sharing your Wonderful Night Ed!!
I'm on the slower path, so I know what you mean
as every moment is a gorgeous sonnet, be it upon
the wind kisses, or all these awesome birds that
I feed in my backyard sanctuary (over 50 pounds of feed a week)
I missed the meteor shower :(
But through your poem I can see

Star Stuck Daisy & The Songs of Wren

What a delightful poem. Yes he was a Hobo but not the kind that's well known. Still it was a nice surprise my friend. This poem captured my imagination until the very end.

Peace love and blessings for all that you do,

John Michael
