A Lazy Man's Victory

Coffee bubbling on the fire
Sunday morning sun ablaze
Enlightened kitchen floor

Repairing a tire can be a dog job...

Birds were singing on a sunny mild day
But Oh my God! Look down to the parking lot!
There stood my old faithful car, on a shady drive way
Had tires flat as a pancake, to tell I forgot

You damned neighbor kids what have you done again!
But Maureen shook her head, and rubbed her eyes
“You better hoist your car, and change the old tire’s frame!”

That’s what she said. But I was lazy, how else could it be.
As on a Sunday morning one feels easy and free
Do just the bare minimum, my inner voice said
And leave the big job for others who are not afraid

Down at the lot, sweat pearls on my head
My repair foam bottle found its rear dusty old valve
Good as new - with a gleaming smile the man on the bottle told
But could it ever be a final resolve?

Bubbly bubbly bubb, there was a snorkeling sound
Got to the next latex bottle, that’s when I found out
A damned rusty nail stuck in the black rubber wound
I had cursed some poor kids on suspicious grounds

With caution I touched the crooked metal bit
Splash bubble splash plot I pulled the iron off
With style a liquid popcorn fountain blew
And snowed white latex stuff on my oily armpit

“Drive the tire warm” the text told on the shiny bottle
That’s what I did whilst pushing a gentle throttle
Rock, rock, yes rock around the yellow condo block

Some curious faces appeared behind morning windows, wondering what I was doing dieseling around their apartments

I drove back again to my shady parking spot
And circled the car, with a skeptical mind
But no! Splash bubble splash plot
White bubbles were rising, of a stinky kind

You bloody damned old greasy rubber hole
Don’t you know what escapes can fill you all too well?
If you don’t want to close up as to please my soul
I’m going to inflate you up to hell!

I pushed the tiny nozzle into the rubber vent
And held the pressure with arm muscles bent
Breathing plastic the wheel wildly inflated and stood
I couldn’t object so-far so-good

Another drive test circled the same old block
The pressure was holding thanks to Heaven’s old God
A lazy man’s victory obtained on a sunny warm day
Was a well-deserved gift for a Sunday’s get-away

Well, Franz. You braved the stinky bubbly even on a Sunday morning... I learned a lot from this experience. Thanks for describing it so vividly.

Best to you, always.
