About foot binding
|
BALLAD OF YEEN WANG
Pregnable, quick in footfall
Gleeful, brunette-bright
Custodian of hope,
Female, vincible kindling, as
Winking, tossing in hearty
Turncoat deceit
Grownups execute
Their attendance
On tradition’s bent, and
Soon, whitely wrapped
In layers,
Each gentle
Together lethal,
Hobbled, shrieking
Your woman’s protest
Each foot cocooned,
You tottered
The road
To beauty, my mother

I've heard of the practice of foot binding - what price, beauty? Sad - painful to read, but necessary - well done, Lucille.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. |

I viewed a video recently wherein an elderly Chinese woman was showing the result of foot binding..I cried for days..when will the plight of women cease in this woeful world..
Thank you for bringing attention to this evil tradition..
