i wanted to leave you with dignity
but there just wasn't any, in the way
and the helpless, hapless feelings
just resonate-- i couldn't save you
like superman, were i able,
i'd have stood before the trajectory
of a fast-moving train, halt the steel
and glass before it shattered bones
and mangled flesh,
or at least weep for you, near a hospital bed
but you never knew, it was you who saved me...
so many nights, such countless times,
when i poured of myself
like ale from your taps
you were there to catch the flood
with two ears and another glass...
