8:00 comes
i can't get out of bed
for when i do, it's the wrong side
of the one i'd made
and consciously deciding not to
negates initial prevention...

it's a war out there
the television rebroadcasts
what i feel in my guts
from a silent night
and an unqueit morning
"are you alright?"

i drive to work
and halfway down the road
i realized, i could not do it
risk calling in, calling a friend,
checking myself in,
or driving up to the ocean

i'd park the car
alongside the road
meander across the parking lot
remove my shoes
roll up my jeans and
wade across the prescious grains
out toward the other side
(of the sea)

but at work,
it's the same hapless resistance
terminals, colleagues, patrons
charge, discharge, some
other tasks
until it's finally lunch break

and still, the same sight
on the television, for a dour girl
in a put-off mood
my mother asks, "has it to do with the date?"
i pause, then sob in a flood of contrition
i'd nearly forgotten my father's birthday.

not bad. I like it.
I also like when you decide to tackle something other than your capacity to fall in love. Not that those are bad poems, but you are good writer and can stretch far beyond that well-tread material.
I particularly like that you have decided to give your thoughts a slight narrative. It adds great poignancy to the piece. Something that simple reflections or stream of consciousness images lack.

Keep writing. How 'bout some prose?
