Every weekend I run this scenario in my head.

Weekend morning one of two
mental lists of what to do
chores the yard and wash the car
the list grows long I won’t go far

I need to have some time for me
words that call from chapter three
characters that need assistance
writing time with no resistance

But leaves are falling everywhere
dust the book shelf vacuum stairs
clean the garage check the tires
prepare the hearth for winter fires

But my character is in danger
chapter four fighting strangers
in chapter five she’s having sex
with a cowboy she calls Rex

Fertilize the lawn for winter
sand the door remove the splinters
leaves in gutter must be flushed
boy this morning sure seems rushed

But wait I have a new sub plot
to make the story change a lot
what if my book dealt with chores
instead of murder love and whores

Oh no I think I’m going crazy
avoiding errands getting lazy
I think I’ll write a poem instead
Hey I just did, all in my head.

great Michael , I loved your expression here. I too am writing another book but I give into writing my poems quite often. Some day I'll finish. And the chores, I only fix whats broke, the rest just lingers. G

Ooooooy, surely, we can all relate to this one. I'm supposed to be painting my apartment, but my muse keeps reminding me that it'll still be there next weekend. And, unfortunately, it is.
Good expression, Michael. Thank you.
