Airborne!

Once we were young, courageous and strong

And thought we would live forever.

Once we thought to serve our country

Was the highest honor for which we could strive.

We went off and joined the Army

And were sent to be molded and trained.

We came away from the training full of ourselves

Believing we were the toughest S.O.B.s in the land.

Then we were sent to the jungles

And told to go fight a war.

It was a world of hike, fight and fear

Where we quickly learned to kill or be killed.

We lost our youth and grew old in a hurry

And no longer believed we were invincible.

We developed a thousand yard stare

And wondered if we could ever return.

We still feel honored to have served

And even luckier to have survived.

We are proud to have been an Airborne Ranger

And grateful as Hell to be alive to brag about it!

Hoo'ah! Even though I am partial to Cav, I.E., a former Scout, I truly loved this poem.
