A Toast

another poem from my book; SKETCHES FROM LIFE

A Toast

Here’s to the folks by the wayside, used and abused by the crowd.

Here’s to the boys and here’s to the girls who are tossed aside by the proud.

I celebrate their dignity,  I celebrate their mirth.

Here’s to all they have given us in time and work and worth.

There’s no trophy for their courage, no reward for their strife.

Yet steadfastly they carry on the grueling toil of life,

These folks beyond the spotlight are the ones who bear the load.

So here’s to all the broken hearts along life’s weary road.

Lonny..I toast YOU! Isn't it amazing how easily the "proud" and the rich/'important' forget that there is a backbone to society.. and THEY aint it! Your rhyme and meter are, of course, half the joy of reading you.. but oh, how I love the way you think.. This book belongs on everyone's shelf! (smile) katy xox.
