”The Town Council of St. Mamede de Infesta and Edium Publishers are honoured to invite you to the presentation of the book “Poetic Anthology AMANTE DAS LEITURAS” (“LOVER OF READINGS”). The event will take place on June 2nd, at 15h30…”
This, dear friends and fellow authors, is an abbreviated translation of the invitation featured above – one that I’m honoured to share with you all. This first Anthology of AMANTE DAS LEITURAS – a Yahoo literary group founded and coordinated by Portuguese author Ana Maria Costa, whom I was privileged to introduce to our AD community (please check out the poem “THE WORDS I DIDN’T HOLD” on my poetry list) – is a dream come to life through an extraordinary labour of love, and I’m deeply grateful to the publisher and the coordinator for the selection of some of my poems for inclusion in this marvelous book, which will also feature, among others, poetic works by Ana Maria and Jorge Vicente – also a dear friend and our fellow author here in AD. The poem below – THOSE MORNINGS – was not included in the list of works I initially submitted to the publisher’s appreciation (incidentally, their translated versions have all been posted here, in AD) but, upon finding its original version in my Portuguese blog of poetry, he specifically selected it for inclusion in the Anthology. So… I couldn’t really say “no”, right? LOL! With hope that, albeit a bit “darkish” in mood, you may also enjoy it, here is, therefore, “the publisher’s selection” – with my wholehearted thanks and lots and lots of love and {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}} to you all!

THOSE MORNINGS
There were those mornings of tears held and skeletal lines read.
Mornings of (un)finishing herself in longing for nonexistent verbs like those puddles that were but in her longing to jump into them into their precise center not with one but many splashes sticking announcements of laughter rotund and to come soon upon the open air with an air, however, of being closed.
Those mornings of nevertheless (un)finishing tears held and puddles to come soon by jumping into them into their precise center not with one but many splashes sticking announcements of a longing to stuff with verbs as rotund as kicks or peels of laughter from ass to mouth the skeletal lines read.
Upon the air, closed, with an air of opening to come soon.

Dear Xuxa,
Your words are like an open and honest look into the heart of humanity. Many of us have experienced "Those Mornings" yet have not been able to express those emotions as purely as you do in this poem.
Congrats on all your poetic accomplishments!
So proud of you,
Joseph |
