Dog Gone the Cooks

Old family motto:
The family that eats
together stays together

Lots of scratch cooking
for all festive occasions
or anything in between

Cooking fresh vegetables
black eyed peas and butter beans
to have with cornbread, of course

A big variety of meats
completing one's thirst
with our famous Southern
iced tea, lemon optional

Mom's apple cobbler
Auntie's arm churned ice cream
Grandma's cast iron fudge cake

Children, set the table
and mind your manners

All sit down together
a prayer to say:
Thank you, God for this meal
good gosh let's eat

Women begin chatting
tackling the dirty dishes
men take a nap
(something in the turkey)

Dog gone the cooking,
miss setting that elegant
dining room table!

Written by someone who adores cooking I would say. A mouth-watering little poem.

I was loving this until the thought of drinking cold tea and ice, yuck, yuck, yuck. Love the pic, too.

When I were a kid, mum had put 8 frozen beef burgers on our kitchen table. No-one saw them vanish, yet Cindy, our Labrador is still the prime suspect.
