For Brent! LOL Thanks Kimmy for helping me remember, kudos my friend!

Up and at "em"

I shouted, as I went throught the house

Cold wind blowing

snow falling outside

there I was,

sitting in the kitchen

with hot steaming cup of coffee in hand

I'm getting ready

to start a long and busy day

There arrives

a blurry eyed 14 year old boy

Holding his poor aching side

With just the right amount of

moaning and screwing up of face

He pronounced

No school today

He could not go

He just thought

that I should know

I examined him well

No temperature

could be found

So I told him hurry

the bus was about to

come around

He looked with bewildered eyes

and clutched his

aching side

With sympthy

I told him

with not even the hint of a smile

it's just your gizzard

it will quit after a little while

he looked at me

about to refuse

but decided

it would be of no use

The homework

he should have finished

the test

he would face that day

with his supposed pain

would not go away

So dragging his feet

bus driver blowing his horn

This young boy learned

Do your homework

and hope to learn

the material that will be on

your test on any given day

cause hurting gizzards

can't keep them away.

Enjoyed with memories of my own shenanigans! I lived in an house with a old coiled heater in our bathroom wall. On days like these I would put my forehead up close to it and then would run downstairs and tell mom I didn't feel well, all knowing she would feel my head for fever!
Worked every time! HA!

This poem is so cute, Tina -- I remember using the very same phrase with my own daughters when they were young, and it worked for awhile ... until they realized they didn't even have gizzards LOL.

LOL So true and I think it is not only little boys that suffer from this mysterious illness from time to time.
