A treasure of infinite value was discovered today by my sister as she prowled through old memorabilia, a timeworn, yellow handwritten poem penned by my dad’s sister, Pearle Johnston Wray. Time of the writing is unknown however, family tree records lists her birth as 1879. I am sure you will agree that this a beautiful work.

Beside the Still Waters

23rd Psalm

Pearle Johnston Wray

The Lord is my Shepherd, wherever He leads

I know He is able to supply all my needs

Tho’ He leads o’er the mountain paths rugged and steep

Or into the valley where shadows are deep

E’en through chilly waters I’ve nothing to fear

I grope in the darkness and find He is near

Beside the still waters of Hope, Peace and Rest

He prepareth a table and I am His guest

My cup runneth over as together we eat

I sup with my Savior, the Communion is sweet

I feast on His promise to my soul it gives strength

As the waters grow deep and the shadows gain length

There is naught that can harm me, my hand He doth hold

With His rod and His staff, He comforts my soul

Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow my days

For beside the still waters He leadeth always

Such comforting words; one need not fear when he/she delves into this reassuring scripture. Beautiful offering, Jim.
