A rhyming poem for children. Suggested age 7-11.

Miss Lucy Caboodle
climbed out of her dreams,
to the call of a loud, honking goose.
Leaping lickety-split,
and grabbing her Kit,
she urged, "Come! - what have we to lose?"

In a trice Lucy leapt
on the goose's soft back
and saluted with pride as they rose.
"Let us not fly by halves,"
she cried. "Steer for the stars,
by the south, where a kinder wind blows."

The neighbours shrieked, "Lucy!
You've gone honking mad!"
and they all wrung their hands in despair.
But Lucy just chortled,
as skyward they hurtled,
to join the great skein in the air.

Propelled by strong wings,
snug in feathers and down,
she replied, with a bold, rousing ring,
"Past starlight, through rainbows,
we go where the goose goes!
- I doubt we'll be back before spring."

And those with sharp eyesight
may still sometimes glimpse
a great bird, like a grey-feathered comet,
or hear through the cloud,
a goose honking aloud,
with Kit and Caboodle upon it.
