Across the beach drifts childhood scent
of seaweed's damp entanglement;
and from the cliff face, echoing,
the cry of gulls on arcing wing
in languid, effortless ascent.
While ocean swells rest somnolent,
her wavelets froth in merriment,
in lacy slippers tiptoeing
across the beach.
These sands where schoolgirl days were spent
I reappraise, with wonderment
that autumn poetry should bring
so warm a re-awakening
to hug this glad recipient,
across the beach.

Beautiful, Sally! Reminds me of younger days when I would relish a fortnight at the coast (Gulf of Mexico, Corpus Christi). Lounging in the sun, surf fishing, napping, dreaming of a (hopefully) successful future.
What I wouldn't give to write delightfully as you!
I am assured that you have found your way around AD.
Moving on to another poetic dish to savor.~~~~~Just(sandy)Jim =-) |
