No. 6 of the Collection for The Act of Dog Campaign.

When I was just a tiny pup, you took me to your home

You gave me love and brought me up as though one of your own

We spent our days together. Never once would we be bored

We had such fun; and always, it was you that I adored

The years went by and so I truly felt that I belonged

But suddenly you turned on me and yelled that you’ve been wronged

You beat me and mistreated me, but this was just the start

You abused my tiny body and you broke my gentle heart

Then there came the horrid day you left me at the pound

My nose was pressed ‘gainst metal grid whilst you were homeward bound

I never moved a muscle, my eye locked upon that gate

Right up until the moment when I had to meet my fate

It was then I learned with sorrow that my future’d, by me, passed

As I choked within the chamber, in which I was cruelly gassed.

Art work by American artist, Mark Barone, who is currently hard at work, painting 5,500 of these portraits of abandoned dogs, killed in shelters and pounds across America, to raise awareness about their plight, and to promote adoption. You can see these paintings on the wall on the website. (Link below) When he is finished, these paintings will reside in a museum. It is hoped that this campaign will continue to raise awareness (for all animals) and reach out world-wide.

I know someone just like that. Unfortunately, she's my sister.

I keep staring at his woefully sad paintings, and I keep wondering why so few today care about the dire plight of Man's Best Friend.
