Drive Alone

This poem came to me after driving home one evening.

I been sittin' too long

Legs have to move

Lost in the floorboard

Wrapped round yo' head

Truck in front of me’s

brake lights got me

wishin' for the drive to end

But the song’s on and it’s

makin' the ride that much

easier

Followin' the white line

Gazin' out the side

Goin' on forever

Keep it up, playin'

the music

He’s singin', got me

all in range

Starin' down the white

lights comin' at me

Are they real?

These days carry on

Sounds oilin' up

my eardrums

Pleasure seekin' in

the driver seat

Watchin' a flash of fence

in the grass

Goin' too fast

Hand searchin' for the gear

Set in drive

Light’s red, can’t move

Need to turn round

Need to paint over more concrete

Here’s where it’s at

when I drive alone.

Interesting perspective, Natosha. The worst thing about driving alone for me is that sometimes, I start to fall asleep. Thanks for sharing. Love and best wishes,

Regis
