written from a list of evocative words a friend sent me: Hope, fear, murder, climb, half, help, need, desire, want, effort, bother, natural, lust, space, time, & betrayal

Hope is dead
All hope is dead
I only know this fear instead
In the eastern sky, the sun does climb
If there was a way, I would stop time

You wanted space, just room to grow
For all our effort we have naught to show
The betrayal of what we once could be
Are there no words to help you and me

And lust will drive you to new extremes
The murder of the young lovers' dreams
Its a natural thing, a common desire
To feel our hearts slowly catch fire

Tell me now what you want and need
To hear me cry, or to watch me bleed
Would it bother you, would it wilt your flower
to hold me close, just for half an hour

Hope is dead
All hope is dead
I only know this fear instead
In the eastern sky, the sun does climb
If there was a way, I would stop time
