This poem makes a comparison of how school was a decade or two ago compared to a lot that is happening today.

A lot has changed in 30 years; a broken sytem breaks even more;

And when I remember 40 years ago, I must admit I am hurt to the core.

There was a time when children were children; they had a place and little to say;

For authority was to be respected and obedience was the order of the day.

Across the nations; in homes and schools alike, today you find a growing, sickly madlady;

One that eats at the core of the heart and wisdom that weakens every strength of character to some degree.

The language has changed and the temperment has too, words don't mean what they used to;

Teachers struggle to guide a child through this ugly maze, reading comprehension is out the window; what's more can we do?

 language arts, no one wants to read, they can hear it in audio, see it on tv highly embellished ; and math, who cares any more;

History is just the olden days, times past, and who really labors for that ole SAT score?

A gross lack of resprect for the female gender is heard,

by the lowlife language spoken in often degraded words.

The young girls accept these words, even laugh at them, I certainly wonder why,

Don't they know they're being insulted?...demand the young boys respect, they don't even try!

Boys mouthy words so sexually explicit, proud of their knowledge & prowness;

They believe they are gifted as a man and their very presence in the face of any girl should be considered blessed.

When personalities clash and rise to where tempers are out of control,

Violence soon becomes the order, compromise - stay cool - who would dare to be so bold?

Ears so loaded with wires and plugs, mindes constantly fed with negative garbage;

Today's lyrics & music devoid of love destined to plant seeds of discord & rage.

The almighty dollar controls this world's unholy system and most youth buy into every wit, today a practice, tomorrow a whim.

Home dynamics are changing too, modern tech & peers raise our kids; Moms working, Dad's shirking; jails are full, grandmoms are trying, granddadys indifferent, or frying;

2 Moms, 2 Dads, No mom, No dad, What's a child to do, the system fails again and again, whose going to help these children get through?

Too many mini me's on the horizon, yes selfishness is the order of the day,

Every kid is me, me, me, me, me, me, me, no regard for others, no patience along the way.

Is anybody seeing what I see? Where is love and patience and guidance and kindness and peace? Where is the guidance and direction that will cause this meltdown to decrease?

Expectations are unrealistic from parents and youth alike, whatever is to come of this generation and the next, my, oh my, unless something changes for the better, I envision an even more horrible plight!
