Locked away by her mother, she is untouched by the lust of the world, but also, the love...

And all her lonely life she mourned
And lay in velvet there
To hear the whisper of the wind
And footfall on the stair . . .

The room was dark with faded love
And breathed in candlelight
And through the dreams of yesterday
She walked in wedding white.

And through the lace she saw the window
That screamed with iron bars,
But still she listened in the darkness
And counted falling stars.

And guarded in a virgin hell
The mirror shows a child
With greying hair and wrinkled brow
And lips that never smile.

And all her lonely life she mourned
And lay in velvet there
To hear the whisper of the wind
And footfall on the stair . . .
