Upscale Love
It bloomed the wondrous day they met,
Raced to lasting ties that bind.
Their new found love went hand in hand;
Lovers' matching souls entwined.
They could not look beyond today,
Passion flamed outside the rules.
They gaily laughed their doubts away;
Love--a paradise of fools.
The siren call of upscale life
Pulled them, as moths to flame.
Success, demanding separate ways,
Gave halt to their love-mad game.
Alone, that week, she shopped Paree.
But, he was there--in her heart.,
Back, with jets and satellite phones,
..."Just a continent apart."
Too soon the excitement dwindled;
Does anything stay the same?
Gentleness seemed to wander away
After powerlust entered his game.
Sharing a little hectic time;
Catching some sleep on a plane
Is it really worth it, just to
Do it all over again?
Why must she give up all her dreams,
To return lost love afar?
Macho-drive had added the spur
That set the course to his star.
Now mega mergers owned his time,
Her new shop was going strong
..."It seems but only yesterday,
Has it really been that long?"
On a wind-chilled street, she glimpsed him,
Rushing for planes heading west.
She might have called out, had he phoned.
Now, sayiing nothing seemed best.
As thoughts of yesteryear return,
A small remorse still lingers.
"How had such perfect love," she asks,
Slipped swiftly through their fingers?"
