These Aren’t My Shoes
So
I Must Be Dreaming Backwards

Best foot forward every time
For who will hide the cracks
Of the full and leaky vessel
No one has to see them
I can deftly pretend
Reason fear away again
For who will lover me
In someone else’s shoes
Like rejection’s debris
Of works to be satisfied
Doing my best with
Difficult requests and
Struggling with resign while
Living on a life of courage
For who will lover me
In someone else’s shoes
It’s not pride, it’s poetic dignity
A free-license thread
Sewing me up inside
What profits the dreamer
An actress for the rent living
On hope that’s not been spent
For who will lover me
In someone else’s shoes
I’m no mere woman
Drowning while trying to
Kiss the moon in the river
It’ not that much to give
So consider it a plank
To bridge this gap to me
For who will lover me
In someone else’s shoes
Illegal, immoral, or fattening
These are where the things
I love best can be found
Like a babe fallen from a star
Sliding to the mother moon
I must be dreaming backwards
And who will lover me
In someone else’s shoes
