A poem i wrote as a tribute to those who have served or are serving with the armed forces..

In the past for our need, they were chosen to be

The protectors, the Heroes, of King, Queen, & Throne

Into battle they go, to keep it the land of the free

So dictators & tyrants won’t claim as their own

Or to help those in need of keeping the peace

Sent to fight with, the weak & oppressed

Their torment & suffering will then cease

To stop their leader, who’s too self obsessed

Where they are sent, they have no choice

Months spent apart from love ones so dear

But when they return it’s time to rejoice

Those who were lost, we all shed a tear

It isn’t a job, for some it’s a vocation

To be part of a band of brothers

There to do service without hesitation

Leaving behind their wives, kids & mothers

Whether they be, at sea, on land or in air

To places remote & faraway from home

In hostile countries, no one would dare

If not as an army, set foot in or roam

With pride & joy we’ll welcome them back

So raise a salute to the fearless & brave

But remember the comrades they now lack

And pay respect by the side of their grave

So others could live, they gave their life

The fight for freedom has taken its toll

Hurt & pain of their loss cuts like a knife

In the heart of the nation it leaves a big hole

All the more reason to end war as soon as possible. These valiant young people may go to war naÔvely, but many come back injured from the experience and never recover.
