Circled in Red

Robbie and Tom
used to pass love letters to me
in Mr. Miller’s sixth grade classroom
"I love you. Do you love me?
Circle one: Yes or no"
I always circled yes.
But that was 1966 in a small town
where Mr. Miller touched little girls
in places that would make any Mama cry

We saw a movie one day about girls’ stuff;
stuff I didn’t understand
Boys weren’t allowed to come
The next day,
Mr. Miller chased his fingers
down my neck
while I was trying to find
one of the words from the movie
in the dictionary
He asked, "Do you want me
to tell your mother what you’re doing?"
My face turned red
and I slammed the book closed
hoping he wouldn’t tell

How dare he
prey on the innocence of little girls
who didn’t have the courage
to tell their mothers
that their teacher touched girls’ bare skin

More than twenty years
after my high school graduation
I read it in the newspaper…
several little girls found the courage to tell
many brave Mothers believed

I lowered my head that day
and mumbled, "Thank you, Je-sus."
Right after I circled it in red
and shouted, "yes, Yes, YES!"

In more than 90% of all cases of sexual abuse, the abuser is someone the victim knows well and trusts.  It is rarely the "Stranger Danger" that we speak to our children about.

The though of someone violating another person male or female makes me want to vomit. Yes "Thank You Jesus" that your story ended with victory. God help those who are afraid to come forward and let the truth be known about these inhumane monsters.

I pray for your peace and happiness.

Yes, Thank God. But what if your sexual abuser is your mother? It was miserable. Thank you for sharing. Excellent. Liz

Amazing. I read so few pieces that move me, but the childhood memories along with the vivid language make this piece aesthetically confusing, giving someone the same feelings one might have in the same situation.

In more than 90% of all cases of sexual abuse, the abuser is someone the victim knows well and trusts. It is rarely the "Stranger Danger" that we speak to our children about. <--------- YEA, I know exactly Why?--- Manipulation... It's like fishing... let me bait my hook *( with Trust with children : ( ) and then I will reel you in 1 at a time--- DAmn, they better get caught... What's worste is when the parents don't have answers in their own lives, and they drink to pass the night or day away, and to console them selves- they reach out! sometimes knowing what they do and who they do it too.... it's sad you can reach out to the hurting children, without someone being suspicious of a friendy innocent deed~! This touched me DEEPLY Tami -Thank YOU! for sharing this with us all, HOpe it gets printed and placed somewhere of Importance! like the halls of Congress --- Warmly and Sweetly,Sheeeox

Tami, this topic is of maximum importance to me .
I think this is a great piece for so many reasons.
We can not afford to be innocent',...( Pat Bennetar")
because so very unfortunately it exists in so many places
and doesn't seem to stop.
My sister Sylvia taught me many things ; One important truth
was when I had really commenced my healing ,( a continuing process)
I said; 'Syl , I can't nor do I want to understand their thinking'.
Syl replied; ' Rick You've got to understand their thinking so it
can be stopped. I was just sixteen, but even then she made it crytal
clear and I changed my perspective then and my healing advanced.
Tami, I pray that GOD fortifies you and blesses you and grants you
the graceful gifts of all you need to do your work.
I have such incredbly high esteem for your work and your loyal
convictions to the cause of helping those Abused., Especially children. it has got to stop....and your piece and it's real contents
are the protective , instructive weapons and amor we all need to
put thieves of innocence down.
Sorry, I am going on and you get my point.
Great and necessary write my dear friend',
May you be blessed with real Joy of a healthy fulfilling life
with peace and wellness for your loved one's and you .
Oceans of love',

Thanks for sharing this Tami, with such well expressed lucid words.
It is a bane of precious children to be molested by adults like that. I wonder why we can't find a way to keep monitors at least in elementary school to try to prevent such occurences. There should be some way to better protect our youth from the miscreants in this world. Until we get serious about this topic and find some solutions it just goes on and on until complacency sets in as it has for generations now. Thank you for taking an active part to try to change the vicious cycle.

The number of male perpetrators far outweigh the female perpetrators, but you are so right, Cliff... I am personally aware of far too many male victims, as well. The true heartache is when the victim is an innocent child. I wish it would stop already.

Thanks, as always, for your kind review.
