Amongst the shadows he walks,
A dark, ambitious man of the past,
Striding in the world like a soldier on patrol,
A man without a true mission,
A man without a legacy.
He climbed the ladder of life with hope, Each year bringing hardship and grief,
Life took his wife, took his home and his heart,
But leaves him,
To mock him,
To mold him,
Mold him into dispair, hate and regret.
Years go by and he wears away,
Just a sad, sad man,
Shabby and unkempt,
A man losing his direction,
A man without life or sense of pride nor worth.
Now he grinds the ground with his foot and a stick,
"Damn this life!
Why is it always me?"
He has no promises left,
No hope nor love,
Just himself, and his soul,
Along with the gravel and the earth,
Ashes to ashes,
He falls to dust,
No memory of life,
Only of fear.

|This is so sad and yet very true for many; once hope is lost, there's nothing. Thank you for sharing this offering, Barbara Anna. Love and peace. Regis|

|This is so sad. To loose everything and gain only despair, is such a sad existence.

|I agree with the rest in that we do turn to ash in the end.|

|There are many many of this man in our world. And no matter who's life is being wasted that is just what it is. A waste.
