growing up on the farm

Daddy you done good

When you built this farm

our children can grow up here

Brave free and strong

For It was just another weekend at the farm

Just outside of Ashland off 61

With brothers and sisters and everyone

Horseshoes fishing and playing cards

With Grandma feeding our chicken

Shane laughs, look at that the goose can fly

At the supper table Dad looked so tired

His head held low in his hands

So I patted his shoulder and then I said

Daddy you done good

When you built this farm

our children will grow up here

Brave free and strong

Pause for music

Well it’s been ten years

Since they sold the farm

Five years now mother been gone

And dear daddy lives in a nursing home

It was just outside his room

As we stand there I weep how

dear lord could this come to be

My son hugs me and then he says

Daddy you done good

When you bought the farm

our children will grow up there

Brave free and strong

Daddy you done good

When you bought the farm

our children will grow up there

Brave free and strong

Daddy We love you

O daddy we do

For you we are now so

Brave free and strong …………..

Sad piece of work. I understood it. Called back my grandparents in my memory. I will be back for more of your poetry.
