Two Princesses

This is a recent, true story with a few metaphors thrown in.

Battle-clad soldiers advanced
Pounding, grinding sweet clover
Beneath their leather boots
In cadence, thrump, thrump
Jarring distant children’s teddy bears
Scouts loped through nearby forests
Searching for signs of their rival
Scant infantrymen feared imminent disaster
Most dwelled on forthcoming booty
Determined legions broke the horizon
The snarling enemy dropped their swords
And fled as fast as they could
Across the bloodletting field
Aware of their overwhelming odds
They fled into distant Fantasia
There, in the center of that broad field
Lay the greatest of treasures
A serendipitous ogre had wisely abandoned
Two innocent, cherished princesses
And returned them to the heart of King Flat Stanley.
