Shelters along the Appalachian Trail are a way of life for long-distance hikers. |

That Smell in the Shelter
Poly-pro socks after five days of wearing
Will have the hardiest hikers a swearing.
Boots made of Gore-Tex® they never will dry.
Armpit alarms that will just make you cry.
Synthetic fibers, an odor they hold.
After three months of hiking, your boots start to mold.
Ninety degrees with the heat and the sweat,
Or after the rain when the shelter is wet.
When you finally get in at the end of the day,
And you’re ready to rest, anyhow, any way,
It’s that smell in the shelter, so let’s give it a yell.
So hooray for that odor, nose-quivering tingle
I know it’s disgusting
But I hope you like my jingle

I'm sure is nice to have shelter when the weather is bad. On the other hand, a smelly old shelter doesn't sound like a very nice place to stay the night. I always preferred a tent, or, if the weather was good, my blanket on the ground.
Nice humorous ending.
