This is an honest to goodness true story.

George loved Carol
so they hooked up.
They married, had children
and a couple of pups.

George is a surgeon
inept and skilled
extremely focused.
He follows God’s will.

Carol is social,
a delight as a friend.
She’s different from George
but they seem to blend.

George sees but one thing,
just one at a time.
Don’t give him more,
spoil his rhythm and rhyme.

Carol and George
go each Sunday to church.
He’s a Bible scholar,
and continues his search.

He gets so engrossed
in the sermon and word,
he forgets his surroundings.
Results can be absurd.

Carol is blonde.
A pretty girl.
So is Carla,
with platinum curls.

George sat down
in his usual pew.
reading his Bible.
but had no clue.

George reached over
to hold his wife’s hand.
He stroked it and held it
as the preacher said, “Stand.”

He held it through hymns
and Matthew and John.
Carla was new to the church
and wanted to run!

“All rise,” said the pastor
“pass the good word about.”
George looked at Carla
and nearly passed out.

I thought you were Carol!
he mumbled and flushed.
He ran out the door
in a heck of a rush.

George the doctor.
George the flake,
will never live down the day
of the mixed-up mate.
