There you are
three little blonde
rabble rousers.
Diagonally two thousand
five hundred and forty miles away.

My heart breaks with love for you.
I imagine your days of running,
happy, blueberry covered mouths,
unaware of childhood’s passing.

You can’t “come over”
or be dropped off to
spend the night, jump on the bed
and eat junk food...
(no homemade cookies from this grand.)

I watch you grow in magical spurts
at six month intervals.
I gasp at your changing bodies and minds.
We play, make messes,
draw and go to the park.

You three,
Papa Eddie and Jana B.
We’ll be together soon
and pretend to fly to the moon.

A beautiful poem swelling with love, Janet. I'm a grand with two of my little ones far away, too. How I long for my bi-annual visits like you. Again, a beautiful poem so full of love and longing.
Love,
CJ

What a lovely "gift" to your grandkids......I'm sure they love being with you and Eddie just as much as you love having them there. It's too bad they are so far away BUT it makes the times together that much sweeter!

Ah Janet, as a fortunate grandfather who gets to play and hugs and kisses my three little grandkids on a daily basis, my heart bleeds with the sadness of your longing. Though there is hope at the end your ache for the tender hugs of the children infuses this whole write direct from your heart. I am glad you will see them soon.

PS love your new profile photo, pretty sharp looking lady for a "granny" lol
