Ode To friendship

When friendship is pure.

Like a night owl perched in a tree

I observed the world around me:

Hate, betrayal and pain

Did I notice again and again

Friendships all seemed to be dried

As emotions were often denied,

Nothing ever made sense

From my distant view on the fence

So on this fence I resolved to remain

Where I’d be protected from all the cruel pain,

But one day, quite out of the blue,

I saw something different and it was you

You were sympathetic and friendly

Full of love and sensitivity,

With you there was no pretence,

With you no need to feel tense

So from my perch I took a leap

And for once felt no need to tremble and weep,

For I landed at your side

And trusted you to be my guide

From then on I changed my view

From “Trust none” to “Trust a few”

So down my barriers fell

And for a change it made me feel well

The world no longer seems a threatening place

And at last I’m not afraid to show my face,

Be it happy or soaked with tears

For you gave me confidence and destroyed my fears.
