The Elk Pool

From my days as a young teacher in Plateau Valley Colorado.

The spring from which the wild elk drank
Was full of the clearest, cold water
of which I could hardly get enough
Especially that day
when I forgot about the confounding array of microbes
that inhabit and multiply in such places
And stuck my face in!

Not that I was so thirsty
Just to taste what they did
soft dark water
creeping down from the snowpack
filling me all.

Nice, Denny. Picturesque. Makes me want to dip my face in that well-remembered stream.
Your picture is kind of neat, too.
