A Second Chance

This poem is about the life of an alcoholic and her recovery.

I used to try to run my life
The way I wanted to
Without regard for fellowman
'Nothing I wouldn't do

I must admit I'd use a friend
Just to attain my means
Their feelings didn't matter then
Nor did their precious dreams

One day the Lord had had enough
And knocked me to my knees
Then when he had me down on them
I learned how to say, "please"

Please!  Help me Lord  Forgive me please
Please! I have been so blind
Please! Let me try to make amends
Please! I've been so unkind

The Lord gave me a second chance
A chance I don't deserve
Now I just one day at a time
My fellowman can serve
