Sometimes we must let go of a relationship that hurts our heart though we're still in love

Gently/
he strokes my skin/
then pulls away/
I feel the passion he can't convey/
his eyes are closed/
but a tear betrays his grace/
as it runs quietly down his face/
and though my longings for him still/
burn/
he has not learned/
that transparency/
is a requisite to love/
and that love is the reprieve he needs to grow/
beautifully/
in the arms of the Sun/
so I run/
unable to stand under the mercurial manifestations of uncertainty/
his brokenness brings/
for he has injured me/
long enough
and in my heart I know/
finally/
I've had enough

I am pleased that I am now a reader and not a submitter. That I have found a poet who's works I can enjoy. Though "Enough" is an age old tale of love forlorn it is still new in this rendering.- Robert

Love hurts sometime until we're force to turn page from the embitterness and move on. Very emotionally descriptive and I loved it! Thanks for the share Shirley! Blessings to you!

In this gleaming gem of a poem, the brightest glint of them all for me is: "....transparency/is a requisite to love/" Stunning illumination Shirley. Thank you. ~~ Diana

A stunning write but it would be interesting to hear the subjects response, for as we all know, there are two sides to every story and two hearts break when love goes bad. Thanks for sharing Shirley.

Excellent meter; simple, powerful images and feelings conveyed. Compelling flow and rhythm. I like this accomplished piece very much.

You have described me as I was many years ago, Shirley. An immature, selfish person who had no sense of the harm I was doing to lovers. I found myself finally, but not before many doors were closed in my face. You have written this poem with the amazing clarity I see in all of your work.
