The following Poem, "Fervor on a Cobblestone Street," is from my book "The Poet Blossomed," the 60's poems of Matthew Ponticello, published in 1984.

Fervor on a Cobblestone Street

On the street where love lights dimmed,

Comes a valiant fervor,

To kiss the tears on shattered hearts,

From passing loves which haunt them.

Clobbering of stallion hooves,

Brings lanterns lit on windows spread,

With balconies, doors slight ajar,

Does the tattered woman dread,

Fervor on a cobblestone street?

Comes the stillness,

Comes the silence,

Her cameo on velvet lace,

Waving slowly with each swallow,

As Fervor’s stallion cease in pace.

Roses rustle on the trestle,

Should dimming lamplights glow,

Pounding hearts with pounding flesh,

To the rhythm of Bolero.

Horse drawn carts and wagons clatter,

Peddler’s melons sweet the air,

Sunlight gently kissing bosom,

As valiant fervor last moonlight dared.

Passion, lust embe dded still,

Alone, the daylight be no more,

Till lanterns shine the evening dim,

With candle’s fire waiting for,

Fervor on a cobblestone street.
