Lonely Man

Lonely Man

I am a lonely man.
not so much in a physical way
my spirit, my heart
my dreams.... are alone
no smiles in the morning
no comfort in the night
no reaching out
to another half of me...
no guardian for MY love....

when the growing stops
the winter sets in
and there is little chance for spring again

It's not that I mind your many directions
it's the pieces of you that were never mine
the loves you mourn
the one you cannot leave behind.

I am not offended by your yearnings
for other places
and other faces...
I am offended that you must punish me
for not carrying you there

I live to protect you, comfort you
and love you
always your trusted friend,
happier, as your forever lover...

But I have lived long enough to know
we all have our own path to travel
go if you must
but please don't waste our precious footsteps
they grow shorter everyday.....

A lovely poem of deep longings unsaid and unheard, kept inside and expressed only in this poem...very moving.
