This Day

I woke up this morning with you on my mind

Wishing that it was your arms that held me last night

Instead of an empty bed.

I saw your face as I looked out into the sun,

Each ray a beam from your smile,

Etched into my memory for safe-keeping.

I thought of your touch,

How it would take away the bitter cold of the falling snow.

How each caress of your fingertips would defrost the ice that has set on my heart,

And turn the world around me into summer once more.

I thought of the pain that has been in me for so long,

The yearning that has gone unfulfilled since our last encounter.

I thought of you on this day,

The coldest day of the year.

A lovely poem about lost love which isn't really lost at all, just misplaced.
