A Meaningless Dy?

Will you be celebrating the birthday Wednesday?
I'm sure you remember.
It's the one for our government.
The one born in 1776; yep, 231 years!.
Just checking in so you don't ignore it while you do
all that eating and outing, and stuff.
Keep in mind that if we hadn't fought for it,
you wouldn't be allowed to do stuff others can't.
Turn off the news and look around you;
where else could your family and you live this way?
As bad as our politicians are, keep in mind that they
take office by election, not from a bloody conflict.
Unappreciative citizens complain about reminders of
patriotism and honoring history; we owe for it.
And, let's not forget that we stay free to say and do
these things, because wars had to be fought.
We've had to bury a lot of pacifists over the years;
not literally, but cowardice would have buried us.
Since our history has become dishonored along with
those who helped make it, this is a reminder; July 4th.
During our nation's birthday on Wednesday, stop
and thank those who gave you the right to do so.

July 2007 F William Broome

AMEN, my fellow partiot. A young United States Marine once said to me: "we hear the hatred from the pacifists and we see the protests of those who despise us but, I'm willing to fight and die for them too. They are my fellow Americans; may God bless them." Let us all remember how we attained and preserved the freedoms so many take for granted. -Great 4th of July offering! Thanks for telling it like it is!

I will aid in a walk for Independence here in Temple Terrace with my daughter-in-law and her parishnors. It will be a festive and energetic salute to Freedom. Let freedom ring!

One day I met a psychiatrist from Venezuala.

He told me that Most of our South American neighbors really did love the US for keeping them free also. He said if it wasn't for the US standing up to the bullies of the world, no one in our hemisphere would be free. I thanked him, and he said, "No, we thank you, especially the vets."

Not a meaningless birthday at all and a perfect write, as well.

Shame on those who don't stop and remember those who fought for the right to celebrate Independence Day. A powerful, thought provoking reminder...well done. Thank you!!!!!!!
