Snow White and Winter Green

A mountain outing... and upping!

Snow White and Winter Green

Saturday morning bitterly cold
coffee cup empty
wishing for breakfast
brings an invitation from
my son living nearby
Eggs and sausage downed
he asks if I'm up to viewing
fallen leaves at higher levels
now frigid after a snowfall
White beauty covers leaves as
a multi-colored patchwork
through melting snow spots
We climb to three thousand
feet above the sea stopping
to inhale our victory over
winter's icy grandeur on
an overlook to a still world
My son's younger eyes capture
landmarks twelve miles away
I smile at Rhododendron's green
against timeless white snowbanks

This is so beautiful......not just the imagery....but the last stanza. How differently young eyes see things compared to those of us with a little more experience............smile.

How beautiful... we are on the same page! I know what this looks, feels and smells like, just having read your stunning evocation and strongly imaged details. A whole short story within the scope of a few lines. Impressive, William! K xx

Sounds like magical memory making that will live on in memories forever...far too many father's forget to keep on finding quality time when their kids get older. Sounds like you had a great day.
