The writing life
strong in my mind
too cold, can't think
fingers won't move
rise from my chair
rummage through closet, find a sweater
something warm to drink
still cold, climb on treadmill, move circulation.
Already skipped breakfast
another cup of tea, a cookie or two.
Go to the bathroom, wash hands
stare out the window
conjure my story
and the grocery list
sort the laundry
pick up kids
Tea is cold
flick on TV while microwave heats
finish watching show, learn about plots
write a screenplay some day.
Actor wasn't good, story not credible
very upsetting, destroyed my mood.
I can write better than that!
Get to work
create mind boggling twists.
Answered the phone, talked too long
answering machine gets the next one
turn the volume down.
Stare at the monitor
tap a key
a few more keys
no more delays
no more tea
don't hold your bladder.
Daydreaming my story's finished
Close the drapes, sit down
words pour out
catch up, work faster, more diligently
never mind typos, edit later
say it succinctly first time through
catch up, don't fall behind
deadlines to meet.
sentence after sentence
one after another.
Oh, that's good!
the end's now in sight
my best story yet
Surely I work better under pressure.
Wonder why other people have writer's block.

|I can so relate to this. It is and isn't a block. Sometimes I go long periods without writing, until I get some type of inspiration and then it all flows. But the block I get as well as the problems in life that arise always lead to better days and poetry. Thanks again.|

|My mind gets blocked and I can wrack my brain and nothing there to write about. All at once an inspiration comes to me to put it to words. Not an expert but like to try and succeed.|

|I tend to have a painter or pastel artist's block. It is a matter of looking at the stool, it being the first obstacle, and forcing myself to sit upon it. Once I have achieved this, then it's on with the headphones and the music does the rest - I am away.
With writer's block, I am new to poetry and so far, I still have a large enough repository of ideas to draw upon.
This list is affirmation that we are all prone to a pen run aground.

|Very good, Mary, well said! I know I tend to write better under pressure and, fortunately, have never been cursed with writer's block. Stop by my A/D pages sometime.
Love in Christ~~

|Excellent job on this. Unfortunately, I have writer's block most of the time. I'm lucky if I can write a poem a month.|
