I want to stay in bed
this morning
with my eyes shut
alarm off
and you in my arms.

I want to wake up at noon,
call in sick to work
and make you breakfast
in bed,
before your beautiful eyes
even see the sun,
your nose will smell the
and toast.

After that I'll massage
your back,
kiss your neck,
and play it by ear.

I want to then take you
to lunch out on the pier
where we first met.
I'll have the fish n' chips
and you the clam chowder.
We'll then lie back in our chairs
and bask in the sun.

I want to get you the ice cream,
you always told me to get
from the store;
third aisle on the right,
with the extra nuts and chocolate!

At the end of the day,
I want to realize that you're in
my arms to stay,
for good this time perhaps.
We'll watch a movie and fall
asleep again in each others arms.

I think more than anything though,
I want to call you up,
and quit dreaming about
what might have been,
and instead think of what I
should have done.

I want to tell you that I didn't
want you to leave.
As much as I said I didn't mind,
it wouldn't hurt,
I didn't feel
the way you did
about the way we were.

I want to find that love again.
The love I gave up for nothing.
My life isn't the same now
realizing that you're not here
to make my dreams a reality.

I keep telling myself that
I'll find you again,
and our lives will again mesh,
the way it did when I first
touched your lips.

I want to believe in "us" again,
and I want you to believe
I didn't mean what I said
when I told you I didn't
feel the same way.
Because "the same way" is making
my heart fall out of my chest
every time I think of you,
or smell something with your
scent remaining on it.

I want to have you find
it in your heart
to realize mine's too soft
to be without you
for one more day
in my lonely world...

You don't write often Rodd, but when you do it is certainly worth the wait. Excellent

BRAVO! Really well done! It tells the simple truth using the really important "little things" in life that we ALL sometimes tend to forget.

This piece makes me remember EXACTLY how I felt, when my wife of 34 years said she wanted a divorce! I tried to do too little - TOO LATE!

It is also refreshing to know that I'm not the ONLY "Martian" running around this Big blue Marble that has a truly caring, tenderness when it comes to romance.

I will return when time allows to read more. Thanks for sharing - WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES - it takes a truly loving partner to FORGIVE them!

Rodd, this touched me so deeply.
Your heart is an open wound in this
awesome write. If this is real, I
hope she reads this and returns with
open arms to you. This made me cry.
Incredibly beautiful...

This is lovely...can't imagine how "she" could resist returning! Lots of heartache here yet expressed beautifully.

This reminds me of my husband. When we first started dating I decided to tell him that 'we'd just be friends'. I was so afraid of him because I was falling in love. Fortunately, he was in love too and he stuck around and did become my friend. Now we are best friends and that's not some corny line. We're married but so much more. Your poem reminds me of the point at which I realized I actually, full out loved this man and gave up my fear of commitment to honor that love. For that, I thank you!
