© Where Is This Person by Gwendolyn Thomas Gath

TXU108.354  May 2003

Where is this person whose fire burns

Immensely and intensely inside of you

Intimately or secretly pursuing the unknown

Within yourself and within another?

Many times I contemplate the facts

The if’s and the but’s

Why many times others want to give or

Want to receive but the fear of

The unknown has deeply engrossed their spirit

That they incrementally give

Is it because they are afraid the exploitation

Of their heart could be their destruction?

Where is this person that represents you?

For me do you ask where then am I?

I am here and will continue to be here

Without a fear of giving

Without a fear of touching

Without a fear of love or loving

Without a fear of stirring myself so deeply

Within my own soul that I have

No choice but to give

My giving is a part of me

My love is what makes me

It is love that represents me

In every aspect of my life

That is where you will find me

So, who is this person that represents you?

I love this, Gwendolyn. It's classy and classic and very lyrical. Yet the concepts and exporations seem very "of today" and psychologically timely. When the self is loved, accepted and understood, that becomes a very strong platform from which to give of self to others - knowing that you give only that which you yourself have received and desire to share for the common good; that of which you cannot be robbed. A most beautiful poem in elegance and eloquence. Thank you. Kate xx

This one really makes me think. Sometimes when you think you know about somebody or some people, but then things happen and all of a sudden you feel like these people or this person is a stranger. It's strange that people and friends who know you once and then act like they don't know you at all. I have these questions all the time. Those who act like this toward me will know who they are, I need not even spell out their names.

Good poem. Probably took the words out of my mouth.

Wow, Gwendolyn, I've been thinking a lot about fear and the way it stunts us, of late. This write has it's finger on the pulse of those who are looking back in introspection and is a reveal to those who are in denial. Fantastic write!

"WHERE IS THIS PERSON" to this reader,
is a passionate and poignant call to self-examination.
"Is it because they are afraid the exploitation
Of their heart could be their destruction?" WOW!
I find this second strophe, and this clarion question, deeply philosophical and spiritual and appreciate how it challenges one to step out and make a difference. How many have rotted in their safe zones because of their fearfulnesses? Too many I fear.
A fine insight poetess
Blessings ...
