And Still I Rise

[She - to her soul mate]

Sadness oft besets my soul
Cold and frail this hollow hole
Darkness laughs into my face
As death attempts to win this race

But life's not done with me just yet
And I've not lived just to forget
The things that ought not be forgot
The words you wrote -- my Lancelot

The ways you've touched me can't be known
The sentient winds your breath has blown
The times you've raised my spirits high
With silver tongue so deft I'd cry

Like none has ever done before
Enthralled me to my deepest core
And still I rise... And still I rise
And ache... to look into your eyes

O' but to live another day
O' but to feel your spirit's ray
That pierces cloud-filled darkened skies
Still I rise...

And still...

I rise

[He - to his soul mate]

O' but to hear your voice again
Such warmth it brings -- it must be sin
I'd gladly die, if you could live
My all... and more, is what I'd give

I love you with resolve of steel
To taste your lips, our bond we'd seal
Your every thought I live to hear
Your voice so dear -- my Gwynevere

I can't but breathe without your touch
I never thought I'd love this much
To feel your hair against my face
Your wistful moan; your silken grace

Like none I've ever known before
I can't imagine wanting more
And still I rise... And still I rise
And long... to look into your eyes

O' but to give you one more day
O' but to drink each word you'd say
That fires my passion's fiercest cries
Still I rise...

And still...

I rise

Jeff.. Jeff.. Jeff! To those who would stick their noses in the air, declaring that poetry that rhymes has less depth, less glory, I say: READ THIS POEM! I was mesmerized by the rhyme and meter, captivated by the language of the masters, and brought to tears by the simple, gentle, quiet passion. One doesn't need to shout love to the skies.. far more power is in the heart of a telling such as this. Simply beautiful! katy xox.
